A man denies using an angle grinder to cut into a bed – while his victim was in it.

Thomas Pearson, 39, is said to have used the tool as part of a campaign of coercive and controlling behaviour between January 2019 and September 2021.

Over the two-and-a-half years he is accused of telling the woman, who he’d known for two decades and with whom he was in an on-off relationship, to change her clothes, stopped her leaving the house in Hook Norton, controlled her money and stopped her eating.

He is also accused of assaulting the woman.

Appearing before Oxford Crown Court on Tuesday, Pearson, of Watery Lane, Hook Norton, pleaded not guilty to controlling behaviour and assault. Judge Maria Lamb remanded him into custody for a trial on February 14 next year.
